Recently Visit Bristol got in touch to offer me a weekend takeover of their Instagram feed. I was delighted, but also a little surprised – my pictures aren’t generally perceived as being ‘tourist friendly’ and I’m aware that not everyone shares my love of brutalist architecture and mundane suburban scenes. But Visit Bristol were looking for photographers to give different perspectives on this city and so I was absolutely up for that challenge!

I was given the Easter weekend slot from Friday to Sunday and the weather forecast was pretty amazing. So I set out some plans to visit different parts of the city with the aim to cover as much ground as possible. I’m always pretty content when wandering the streets with my camera and this takeover gave me the opportunity to do just that, with the added bonus of a much larger Instagram audience for my pictures.

In all I made five trips out. The first was to Stoke Park on the Wednesday before Easter. I took the opportunity of a foggy morning to head up the the BT Tower on Purdown hoping that it would make for some good pictures – I wasn’t disappointed.

On good Friday I visited Stockwood, Whitchurch and Knowle in the South of the city. On Saturday I went to Bedminster – home to Upfest and amazing streetart and In the evening I went to shoot Clifton Cathedral and had a wander around Funderworld on the Downs. On Sunday I made my way to St Werburghs via Stokes Croft and Montpelier. I posted some of these shots on the Visit Bristol Instagram feed and in the stories and got some lovely reactions.

Here are a selection of my favourites images from the takeover…
